Letterkenny Blaze 42 – 22 Tyrone Towers
Letterkenny Blaze Under 14 boys got their season off to a fine start with a good win away to Tyrone Towers in Dungannon on Sunday. The opening quarter saw the boys play good defense only allowing two baskets . Blaze went on the attack and scored 8 points from play and 1 from the free throw line.  Blaze led 9 – 4 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw some more open play from both teams with Tadhg Hickey and Thomas Sammon producing scores for Letterkenny Blaze. Matthew Deeney displayed good ball handling skills to drive out of defense and set up more Blaze offense. Blaze finished the half strongly to lead 19 – 13.
The third quarter saw Blaze step up their defense with sustained man to man pressure and good defensive rebounding from Irwin Velayo and Mark Thorton . Eoin Farrell provided the outlet and assists to Peter Lynch who scored 4 points while Cian Hickey scored 6 points from good offensive play. Tadhg Hickey picked up 2 more points following some persistent offensive rebounding.
The last period continued in the same mode. Blaze went man to man in defense and outplayed Tyrone. Andrew McKeever and Caolan Harhen both intercepted passes and moved the ball quickly into offense to set up Cian Hickey to scored 9 more points. David Ireland finished the day with a nice left hand lay-up.
