We have two really accomplished coaches coming to direct camp this year.  Each for two days

Francis O’Sullivan

  • We are delighted to welcome FRANCIS O’SULLIVAN who has been involved with basketball his whole life. Growing up in Cork and eventually playing for all of the powerhouses of basketball there, Francis has always been passionate about the sport of basketball. He played Superleague back in the Golden Age of basketball in the 1980’s and ever since has been a much valued servant of Irish Basketball. He has been instrumental in the development of many young basketball talents in this country. Francis continues to ply his trade with many teams. He has just had another very successful season with all his prodigies. He is currently coaching:

Irish Senior Ladies Team – Assistant Coach
Brunell Ladies Superleague Team – Head Coach
    2016/17 Ballincollig U14A AICC’s Winner – Coach
2017 Coláiste Choilm U19A All Ireland Schools League Winners back to back.

Francis has also been a Tutor for Basketball Ireland facilitating lots of coaching courses and passing on his vast amount of knowledge to others.

Our players should be very excited about having Francis come to camp this year. It certainly is an opportunity not to be missed.

Brian O’Malley -Our second guest coach for Summer Camp this year is Killester’s Brian O’Malley.

Brian commenced his basketball career in his hometown of Ballina, Co Mayo where he played National League and then Superleague before also playing at neighbouring Castlebar.  Having made the move to Dublin for college/work Brian joined Killester BC, considered as one of the most successful clubs in the country.  Here he played Superleague and has been involved with the club for many years now.  Brian was appointed to the position of Head Coach with Killester’s Men’s Premier League side for the season 2015/16 having previously acted as assistant coach. For his work that year he was awarded Super League Coach of the Year for the season.  These awards are given to recognise the sporting excellence of players, coaches etc during a given year. He has also coached extensively in Colleges basketball most recently as coach to the Maynooth University ladies team.  He also held the position of coach to the Irish University Select team some years ago.  As if he’s not busy enough Brian looks after the U17 Girls at Killester and has also coached the division 1 team.

Brian is a passionate basketball coach and a great tactician in the modern game.  He knows the game well and sets the bar high in terms of standards.  Brian has the great ability of progressing young players and getting the best from them.

We are delighted to welcome Brian to Letterkenny Blaze and again our players should know that it is such a real privilege to have the opportunity to be coached by another great coach.

We encourage all our players to attend external basketball camps in addition to our own in-house camp.  This camps generally run in July each year.  At these camps players are exposed to valuable expertise coaching, make friends for life and have fun.  Below are the links to some of the camps on offer:
